Hon.Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga stated that public should not be ignored when decisions taken to increase fuel prices. He further stated that decisions should be take in favor of the public since fuel price is a sentimental subject. He stated that Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) should be carry out as a institution which render service to the public rather than as a profitable institution. He made these reviews at war heroes commemoration ceremony held at Ganemulla, today(14). Responding the journalists Minister Ranatunga states that he hasn't agree to fuel price hike last time for the betterment of the public.

" I don't agree to carry out not only CPC, but Electricity board and Water board as profitable institutions. If these institutions are making losses, we should consider it as a public service, disregarding the lost caused. Based on that opinion, i haven't agree to fuel price hike last time. It's not an objection, but a disagreement" Minister stated.

" CPC doesn't occur losses from fuel supply. We can supply fuel with low profit, if the tax hasn't existed. We can reduce fuel prices if the tax is low. On the other hand, we can't reduce tax, since most of developments are depend on this tax. Cabinet has reluctantly agreed to increase fuel prices. price of the Crude oil is high rather than the price existed when we take over the government. we expect price of Crude oil will go down in future" Minister Ranatunga added further.
