Message from Hon. Minister Susil Premajayantha

Sri Lanka Government first entered the Petroleum trade in the second half of the year 1961 with the establishment of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) by Act of Parliament No. 28 of June, 1961. The then Hon. Minister in charge of the subject was late Hon. T. B. Illangaratne in the Sirimavo Bandaranayake Cabinet. Initially the CPC was only an importer and distributor of refined petroleum products in competition with the then existing oil traders in the country, Shell Caltex and Esso. The initial capital contributed to the CPC by the Government was Rs.10 million. By the beginning of the year 1964 the entire petroleum trade in the country was taken over by the government sand CPC became the sole importer and distributor of petroleum products in the country, thus enjoying a state of monopoly.

Message from Hon. Deputy Minister SaranaGunwardene

The price of Petroleum  in the international market has risen steeply, but the Ministry of Petroleum Industries will take all possible steps to avoid passing on this burden to consumers. not a single price increase has taken place since November 2009 . I am confident that under the able leadership of our Minister, the Hon. Susil Preamajayanth , both institutions controlled by our Ministry, namely the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Ltd., will soon become viable profitable entities.

Message from Secretary, Mrs. Sandya Wijayabandara

You are warmly welcome to the official website of the Ministry of Petroleum Industries. First it is appropriate to identify the main objectives of the Ministry. Mainly all policy planning activities related to Oil trade of Sri Lanka are handled by the Ministry. There are two main institutes under the purview of our Ministry, namely Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals (CPSTL). All directing and co-ordination activities of the above said institutions are carried out under the Ministry authority.
